The Benefits of Warm Lemon Water in the AM

You've heard before that lemon water is good for you and maybe you've even had a sippy sippy of your own.  

I recently resumed drinking warm lemon water in the morning because I thought it made me feel good when I'd done it before.  I believe myself and all, but questioning my thoughts led to renewed my curiosity about the proven benefits of warm lemon water. 

So I wandered into nutritionist Alexa Schirm's "Simple Roots Radio" podcast for the rundown. 

Alexa highlighted the following benefits and more: 

  • Aids in digestion  
  • Boosts immunity  
  • Helps flush the system  
  • Is more hydrating than plain water 
  • Warm water is more favorable to your optimal body function unless you're actively trying to cool yourself 
  • Increases metabolism by 30% for over an hour

I also know from my experience that a cup of warm water first thing in the morning helps temper my sugar appetite and makes me feel mindful of what I put into my body next after starting the day drinking all that goodness.  You may find even more / different benefits emerge for you.

I enjoy my lemon water with Meyer lemons as often as possible...juicy, magically delicious, lemon-orange-hybrid creatures that they are.

Before I start getting ready for work, I squeeze about 1/4 of a big lemon (or 1/2 a smaller one) into a mug, select the 6 oz mug option on the Keurig with no pod in so only hot water runs out and voila!  I make sure to drink it up by the time I leave home for the day.  Then I take the same lemon piece and throw it into my water bottle to infuse that ish and keep the party going all day.  Yule!
