"In New York,
Concrete jungle where dreams are made of
There's nothing you can't do
Now you're in New York
These streets will make you feel brand new
Big lights will inspire you
Let's hear it for New York, New York, New York"
Empire State of Mind x Jay-Z & Alicia Keys
I have so many friends and family that have lived in and visited Brooklyn. I have been but I feel like I've never truly explored Brooklyn to the extent at which I have wanted to. So I am definitely going back to NY to be a tourist but I want to spend most of my time in Brooklyn to check out some of the spots that my friends have suggested.
Bed-Stuy Fish Fry
I am a pescatarian so I LOVE fish and it's fried....WHAT? I am THERE; you don’t even have to ask me twice. Self-dubbed the best fried fish in Brooklyn, you can order fried whiting, tilapia, shrimp, lobster tails, and salmon. There are also other items on the menu such as salmon burgers, hush puppies, crab cakes, and clam strips and for you meat lovers don't worry there is a lot on the menu for you too. You can choose to order anything from a turkey burger to chicken wings and chicken fingers. It all sounds great to me; I'm ready!
Apparently SEA is the business. I think one of my friends referred to it as sexy food which I totally would like to experience. I like all things sexy! Lol, maybe not all things but food definitely! Serving up extra good Thai food, SEA has menu options such as the Brooklyn Dinner Roll, Pad Thai Spring Rolls, and Red Thunder Fried Rice. I've been to Thailand twice and absolutely fell in love with the cuisine. Writing about SEA is making me so hungry right now.
Southern food served up right in Stuyvesant Heights pays homage to the classic South, which will probably make my Southern taste buds tingle as soon as I step into the door. According to my friend Afeisha, "Peaches' food is so good!" My friend Essence says brunch is nice and in the South we brunch hard so I am super ready. Menu items such as Brooklyn Wings, Smoked Chicken and Sausage Gumbo, and OVEN BAKED GRITS <-- What? I am ready (as soon as Spring comes around).
Smorgasburg is a Brooklyn flea market and Afeisha gives it two thumbs up. If you want a beverage, Smorgasburg has it; if you want packaged food, Smorgasburg has it. The market is open rain or shine and really who just doesn't want to stop by a flea market on a Saturday or Sunday? It sounds so refreshing.
SoCo | Southern Fusion Cuisine
Buttermilk Fried Chicken | Pecan Crusted Pork | Sweet Potato Pancakes | talk about good food! Hopefully my friends won't mind if I steal a bite of food from them while I indulge in these sweet potato pancakes and lobster, shrimp and grits. Not only can you eat brunch at SOCO, you can head on over to the cocktail bar and order your favorite drink and there's a DJ booth. This is my kind of restaurant; I am super excited.
Conveniently located near the Barclay's Center, Woodlands is a top choice for my New York and New Jersey friends. Woodland Jerk Chicken Wings, Fried Chicken and Red Velvet Waffles, and a Wild Scottish Salmon Burger are just a few of the tasty items that their menu has to offer. Known for their private event space and full bar with a complete selection of anything you could possibly want; you will not be disappointed in the Woodlands unique dining experience.
My girls also suggested Footprints and Sugar Cane for really good West Indian food!
