Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams
"$10 for a pint of ice cream?"
"It is...you'd have to taste it to understand."
Some years ago, I was trying to explain so someone why I'd pay good coin for a pint of ice cream at The Fresh Market in Savannah (not to mention why I'd be spending coins at The Fresh Market).
But this ice cream wasn't just any ice cream; it was Jeni's Splendid Ice Cream of the inexplicably delicious brown butter variety...it was like double butter...and so rich you didn't need that much in one sitting, so it actually lasted a while in the freezer.
Fast forward a few years and I'm living in Atlanta again to find the pleasant surprise of a Jeni's Splendid Ice Cream Shop in my hood at Westside Provisions.
Keriki & I were having a fullofsage meeting nearby and had to stop through for a morsel. It was even more delicious than I'd remembered.
Some of the flavors on deck were:
Thai Curry Pumpkin
Sweet Potato Eclair
Riesling Poached Peach Sorbet
Goat Cheese & Red Cherries
Dark Chocolate Peppermint
and of course, good ole Brown Butter.
We passed on the delicious-looking fresh-made waffle bowls (I should not have) but tried 3 lil scoops each and enjoyed our cups with glee.
If you haven't tried Jeni's yet trust me...you should. There are 2 more locations in Atlanta and also:
& St. Louis, MO (where Andrew Caldwel at?!)
You can also buy Jeni's in many The Fresh Market and Whole Foods stores and of course you can buy it by the pint online. You can thank me now.
