Listen to the sounds of the Soca Caribana 2016 playlist to get you into the Caribana mood IMMEDIATELY.
Caribana or the “Toronto Caribbean Carnival” is a Caribbean carnival event. It is a HUGE street festival that is visited by millions made up of both locals and visitors every year and I am so upset that I have not gone yet. My family is Jamaican and I used to live in Jamaica so you know I am already here for the steel pans, the soca, the calypso, the reggae, and the dancehall music. Caribana is a 2-week event but the ultimate event is the street parade during the first weekend in August. Tons of people dress up in costume and wear lots of beautiful make up and shiny glitter on their body, representing different countries and themes through art and dance.
Artists such as Melinda Rickson have designed and produced several Carnival costumes for years.
